How does a commercial solar energy company keep its B2B business while transitioning to a consumer-focused product? That was the exact challenge Solar Landscape faced when it became one of New Jersey’s pioneering Community Solar project developers.
Solar Landscape has a long track record of success in solar energy marketing in the commercial real estate industry. In their B2B business, they help property owners meet their ESG goals. When the NJBPU rolled out the Community Solar Energy Pilot Program, they quickly needed to consider a whole new way of marketing their business.
The value of digital marketing is always plentiful.
It provides targeting, data, and analytics that allow marketers to create truly impactful campaigns. This is no different when it comes to digital marketing for solar companies.
For this project, the M studio team began at the beginning: with the Solar Landscape brand. Our team made enhancements to collateral, digital assets, and messaging. We developed core consumer-facing digital channels by which to promote the Community Solar message. And we used the power of PR to promote Solar Landscape’s trailblazing work in Community Solar and the company’s commitment to developing healthier communities and a more robust clean-energy workforce.
Design & Digital
Solar Landscape needed to put a greater focus on Community Solar. And they needed a consumer-facing campaign in order to help meet their subscriber goal.
Instead of working with commercial property owners, they now needed to reach the public. This required a solar marketing campaign that educated consumers on how Community Solar worked and the value of solar energy.
Solar Landscape had yet to engage in any form of consumer-facing marketing and digital campaigning up until this point.
With a deadline to acquire Community Solar subscribers, they worked with our agency to manage their social media marketing and digital asset development. Through our work, we were able to increase awareness of Community Solar in key demographic areas. We did this through paid and organic social media, email marketing, and digital advertisements.

In addition to our digital marketing efforts for Solar Landscape, we also worked to establish a cohesive look and feel for all printed collateral. This included promotions with professional organizations like NAPEO and the MidAtlantic Real Estate Journal.
Reaching key demographics within a specific community is really important to marketing Community Solar. Our team worked with Solar Landscape to create and A/B test postcard content within specific Community Solar demographics.

One of our core focus areas was publicizing Solar Landscape’s Community Solar projects in key trade magazines and real estate publications.
We also worked with company leadership to byline articles in hyperlocal community and regional outlets to tell important stories happening at the solar start-up - including community outreach efforts and workforce development and training in their local community.
